Author Responsibilities
Authorship
Authorship provides credit for a researcher’s contributions to a study and carries accountability. It is important that the correct list of authors is attributed to an article from the start of the submission process. Troika Press follow the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) guidelines of authorship to ensure fair and transparent credit for all authors involved in the research.
All authors listed on the submission must meet the following criteria:
- Made substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data; or the creation of new software used in the work;
- Have drafted the work or revised it critically for important intellectual content;
- Have approved the version to be published;
- Agree to be accountable for all aspects of the work to ensure that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.
Contributors who do not meet all these criteria should not be listed as authors but may be acknowledged in the publication. Examples of activities that alone (without other contributions) do not qualify a contributor for authorship are acquiring funding, general supervision of a research group or general administrative support, writing assistance, technical editing, language editing, and proofreading.
It is also important to note that artificial intelligence tools (e.g., ChatGPT) do not meet the authorship criteria and, as such, cannot be credited as authors. For more details, refer to our AI Policy here.
Research Integrity and Transparency
Authors are responsible for maintaining research integrity and transparency. They must ensure that their work is original, written by them, and has not been previously published or submitted elsewhere. Data presented in the work must be accurate, truthful, and not manipulated. Furthermore, research must be conducted ethically, with data collected and analyzed using appropriate scientific methods and results accurately interpreted. If requested, authors must provide raw data to reviewers to ensure the credibility of the research.
Permission and copyright
Where material is taken from other sources (including their own published writing), it is the responsibility of the authors to obtain permission from copyright holders and to ensure that the use of images, data and illustrations in the manuscripts do not violate copyright laws. If a copyright violation in any of the published articles is brought to our attention, we will notify the author for correspondence. It is the responsibility of the author(s) to settle issues with the copyright holder.
Conflict of interest
Any real or apparent conflicting or competing interest is clearly stated on submission of their paper, more information on conflict of interest is given here.
Research ethics and consent
All research submitted to Troika Press must adhere to the highest standards of research ethics, following the established guidelines of the relevant academic discipline. This is especially critical for studies involving human or animal subjects, where rigorous ethical considerations must be observed to ensure the integrity of the research and the well-being of subjects.
For more detailed information about Ethics Approval and Informed Consent, please refer to our full guidelines here.
Withdrawal
Authors may withdraw their manuscript at any stage before the first PDF is produced. However, once the first PDF is finalized, withdrawal is only allowed in cases of proven scientific misconduct. If authors choose to retract their manuscript for other reasons, the withdrawal will be processed, but the full publishing fee must be paid to cover copyediting and production costs. Also, removing a manuscript after the production of the PDF will incur additional costs for us to reset the Issues and page arrangements. We strongly encourage authors to carefully consider their decision before requesting withdrawal, particularly after production has begun.
Post-Publication
The post-publication responsibilities of authors are crucial in maintaining the integrity and credibility of their work. Authors should remain accessible to address queries, feedback, or critiques from the academic community. Cooperate with publishers in issuing corrections, retractions, or errata when necessary. Ensure ongoing engagement and accountability for the work after publication.
